About the Metropolitan Opera
The Metropolitan Opera is the largest classical music organization in North America and one of the most prestigious opera companies in the world. Since 1883, "The Met" has presented the finest singers, conductors, and productions, defining operatic excellence for generations of audiences.
The company performs in the stunning Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, a 3,800-seat theater renowned for its dramatic starburst chandeliers, superb acoustics, and massive stage capable of the most ambitious productions. The Met presents approximately 200 performances each season, spanning classic masterworks and contemporary premieres.
From Verdi and Puccini to Wagner and Mozart, the Met attracts the world's greatest opera stars. Whether you're a lifelong opera devotee or experiencing this art form for the first time, the Metropolitan Opera delivers unforgettable performances. The HD broadcasts to movie theaters have introduced millions to the magic of live opera—but nothing compares to being there in person.
